April showers bring May flowers, and along with those flowers comes Tire Take Back! In partnership with Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association (OARA), this year marks the fifth annual event to help raise money for Sunshine Foundation of Canada. Money raised through the event allows children with severe disabilities or life-threatening illnesses the opportunity to experience the adventure of a lifetime, like meeting an idol or going on a dream holiday.
Over $700,000 has been raised through Tire Take Back events over the past four years, and the goal this year will be to raise another $100,000. Last year’s event raised a whopping $175,000!
By dropping off tires between May 26th and May 31st, community members can not only help fulfil dreams for young children, but also enter into some friendly competition. The participating location that collects the most tires will receive a Community Prize of $15,000 towards a sustainable upgrade to a community space of their choice. In past years, this has allowed towns to install new sports arena flooring, playground surfacing, and much more.
