The British architect Richard Rogers once said that the only way forward, if we are going to improve the quality of the environment, is to get everybody involved. This is exactly what the Green Living Show is all about; providing Ontarians concerned about the earth with front-line access to a wide selection of sustainable, eco-minded businesses and organizations that are all about making our planet a better place to live.

Naturally, Ontario Tire Stewardship (OTS) had a booth at the Toronto-based show this past weekend and our presence was bigger than ever! Not only did we talk to hundreds of show goers at our booth, but OTS also had a large presence all around the show floor, with rest areas decked out with rubber products made from recycled tires including mulch, rubber bricks, flooring, planters and more. The show itself was a packed affair, with attendees from all across Ontario making their way over to check out the latest in environmentally friendly products and services. Our ambassadors navigated the packed show floor to seek out some cool new products. Here are some of our show favourites:

If you haven’t heard of smart, internet connected thermostats yet, the ecobee is not to be missed. The striking, sleek thermostat promises to lower heating and cooling bills, leaving more money in your pockets – and more power on the grid. The aged silver maple tree on Laing Street in Toronto’s Leslieville neighbourhood, the inspiration behind Alexander Muir’s famous song “Maple Leaf Forever”, was brought down by a storm in 2013. The City of Toronto commissioned Toronto artisans, designers, and woodcrafters to create art from the salvaged wood. The Maple Leaf Forever Exhibit and Auction featured unique lighting fixtures, beautifully carved wooden sculptures, and other sustainable art for attendees to view and bid on. We wouldn’t be OTS if we didn’t love recycled tire products. That is exactly why we love everything Chic Made Consciously had on display at the show. From headbands, bracelets, handbags and more, the funky accessories are a must-have for sustainable fashionistas everywhere. A little physical activity never hurt anyone. The lineup at the WWF’s indoor rock climbing wall proved that exercise can be fun and exciting. We had a great time at this year’s Green Living Show, and loved talking to all the eco-enthusiasts. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!
