Re: Amended Rules for Stewards effective July 1st, 2015
Dear Steward:
Ontario Tire Stewardship (OTS) has amended the Rules for Stewards (“Rules”) to streamline the reporting and remittance process for Stewards and enhance OTS’s ability to ensure a fair and level playing field for all Stewards of New Tires in Ontario.
The changes to the Rules are as follows:
• Allow Stewards remitting <$10,000 annually to report and remit on a semi-annual schedule; • Clarify the process by which a Steward that has ceased to supply new tires as defined by the Rules may deregister from the Used Tires Program and demonstrate prior to deregistration that it has fully met its obligations under the Rules while a Steward; • In the event of materially deficient reporting by a Steward that causes OTS to incur unreasonable costs to complete the required audit of the Stewards reported supply and TSF remittances provide a means for OTS to recover these costs from the Steward. The Draft Amended Rules can be found on the OTS website at Rules for Stewards- Draft June 2015.
OTS is working with Waste Diversion Ontario to secure approval of the amended Rules with July 1st 2015 as the target date for them to become effective. Upon approval, or in the event of a change to this timeline OTS will advise Stewards accordingly.
Please do not hesitate to contact OTS with any questions regarding these revisions either by e-mail at contact OTS at info@rethinktires.ca or by phone at 1-888-687-2202. We look forward to working with you to continue to deliver the Ontario Used Tires Program successfully.
Regards,
Andrew Horsman
